Fuel Cost Calculator
Calculate the fuel cost for a trip from distance, fuel economy and price.
What is the Fuel Cost Calculator?
This tool estimates the fuel cost of a trip from its distance, your vehicle's fuel economy, and the fuel price you enter yourself — useful for budgeting a road trip or comparing the running cost of two different vehicles.
The formula
Fuel needed = Distance ÷ Fuel Economy (converted to consistent units first), then Cost = Fuel Needed × Price per Unit. Since MPG, L/100km and km/L all express the same relationship differently, the tool converts your chosen economy unit internally before calculating.
How to use it
- Enter your trip distance and its unit.
- Enter your vehicle's fuel economy in whichever unit your car's spec sheet uses.
- Enter the current fuel price (this tool doesn't fetch live prices — enter what you're actually paying, or check a local price before a trip).
