YouTube Thumbnail Downloader

Get any YouTube video's thumbnail in every available resolution.

Couldn't find a valid YouTube video ID in that link.

What is the YouTube Thumbnail Downloader?

Paste any YouTube video link and this tool builds direct links to that video's thumbnail image at every resolution YouTube publishes — from the largest available (up to 1920×1080) down to the tiny default preview size.

How to use it

  1. Paste a YouTube video URL (watch page, youtu.be short link, or Shorts link all work).
  2. Click any thumbnail to open the full-size image in a new tab.
  3. Right-click the image (or long-press on mobile) and choose Save Image As.

Why some sizes are missing sometimes

YouTube generates thumbnails from the video's own frames at upload time, and the largest size (maxresdefault, up to 1920×1080) isn't guaranteed to exist for every video — older videos or ones uploaded at lower resolution sometimes only have the smaller sizes available. This tool checks each size and only shows the ones that actually load successfully for that specific video.

A technical note on why there's no direct "Download" button

These thumbnail images are hosted on YouTube's own servers, not this site's, and YouTube's image servers don't send the special permission header (CORS) that would let a website's JavaScript pull the image data and force a save dialog. That's a deliberate browser security restriction, not a limitation of this tool — opening the image and saving it manually is the reliable way around it, and it takes only an extra click.
