Work Hours Calculator

Calculate weekly work hours from clock-in/out times, breaks and overtime.

A clock-out time earlier than clock-in is treated as an overnight shift crossing midnight.

What is the Work Hours Calculator?

This tool builds a simple weekly timesheet: enter a clock-in time, clock-out time and break minutes for each day, and it totals your worked hours for the week, splitting them into regular and overtime hours at whatever weekly threshold you set.

Handling overnight shifts

If a clock-out time is earlier than the clock-in time on the same row (e.g. in at 22:00, out at 06:00), the calculator assumes the shift crossed midnight and adds 24 hours before subtracting, rather than producing a negative or nonsensical result.

Why the overtime threshold is editable

Overtime rules differ by country, industry and employer — a 40-hour weekly threshold is common in the US, but daily thresholds, different weekly limits, and entirely different overtime rules exist elsewhere. Rather than assuming one country's rule, this calculator lets you set your own weekly threshold (or set it to 0 to disable the overtime split entirely and just see total hours).

How to use it

  1. Fill in clock-in and clock-out times for each day you worked, plus any unpaid break minutes.
  2. Set your overtime threshold in hours per week (or 0 for none).
  3. Read off total, regular and overtime hours for the week.

This calculates hours only, not pay — multiply regular and overtime hours by your respective pay rates separately, since overtime pay multipliers also vary by jurisdiction and employer policy.
