Image to Text (OCR) Converter
Extract text from a photo or screenshot, entirely in your browser.
What is the Image to Text (OCR) Converter?
OCR (Optical Character Recognition) reads the text visible in a photo, scanned document or screenshot and turns it into editable, selectable, copyable text. This tool runs a real OCR engine — Tesseract, the same open-source engine behind many commercial OCR products — entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your image is never uploaded to a server.
How it works, and why the first run is slower
The OCR engine and its English language model (a few megabytes) are loaded into your browser the first time you click "Extract Text" on this page. That initial load takes a few seconds; recognition itself typically takes anywhere from under a second to a few seconds depending on image size and complexity. Everything after the initial load happens locally on your device — there's no per-use server round-trip.
Getting good results
- Clear, well-lit, high-resolution photos of printed or typed text work best.
- Straighten tilted or rotated photos first — try the Image Rotator if needed.
- Handwriting recognition is significantly less reliable than printed text with any OCR engine, including this one.
- Currently this tool recognizes English text only.
How to use it
- Upload a photo, screenshot or scan containing text.
- Click Extract Text and wait for the engine to load and process your image.
- Copy the extracted text, or fix any misreads directly in the output box before copying.
